You Decide with Errol Louis

Nov 25, 2020

Earlier this week, Mayor David Dinkins passed away at his home on the Upper East Side. Dinkins made history when he was inaugurated on January 1, 1990, as New York City’s first Black mayor. As New Yorkers remember Dinkins, we wanted to revisit our podcast special which originally aired in January:

When David Dinkins took office, he promised to bring the divided city together. But his administration faced a host of problems, from racial tensions and concerns about public safety to a budget deficit. From the perspective of Dinkins and his top advisers, Errol delves into Dinkins’ time in office, the challenges he faced and some of the administration’s high points, including Nelson Mandela’s visit to the city.

Also check out part three, which explores Dinkins’ re-election fight in 1993 and his legacy, 30 years later.
